Substation Maintenance II and Protection Course
Course Overview:
This course is focused on the understanding of substations equipment, testing and maintenance practices in a concise manner.
Participants will be exposed to the substation layout and the significance of the ordinary components used in substations including; transformers, relay connections and grounding systems.
The course contains discussions on AC tests of transformers, nameplate work exercises, and turn ratios calculations. Other areas to be studied Messa goal include testing of transformer oil and gas, sampling for transformer and maintenance of storage battery.
It covers commissioning of substations, fault calculations, and systems of protection, emphasizing on practical work. Suitable for students in training, technicians, and engineering students, this is a course for individuals engaged in substation maintenance and testing work.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- Explain the configuration and function of common equipment found in a substation.
- Identify components of power and distribution type transformers, including common insulating and cooling mediums.
- Describe and carry out AC tests performed on transformers.
- Perform a nameplate exercise and calculate the turns ratio of transformer wiring
- Summarize ASTM requirements for testing and sampling gas and oil in transformers.
- Outline storage battery maintenance.
