Advanced Cementing Practices Course
Course Overview:
This course offers a full understanding of cementing activities. This includes, but is not limited to, primary, surface, liner and multistage cementing. Participants will examine cementing chemistry, cementing additives, the design of cementing jobs, and cementing quality evaluations through case studies. Less usual cases such as gas zones, deviated wells and some remedial work are also discussed. Aspects of the program include, but are not limited to, practical exercises on the estimation of cementing parameters, sequencing jobs, and cement log interpretation. Suitable for engineers and supervisors whose tasks involve planning and performing cementing operations. This course aims at enhancing cement job success or efficiency while lowering expenses at the same time.
Course Objectives:
- To acquire a detailed knowledge of the different cementing techniques
- To address special cases: liner, highly deviated wells, gas zones
- To design a full cementing program for a real typical case
- To assess the quality of a cementing job
- Use cementing additives properly to improve and reduce job costs
- Interpret laboratory test results
- Perform primary cementing operations to include: casing cementing, liner cementing, multi-stage cementing
- Conduct squeeze jobs and selection of squeeze tools
- Perform cement plug operations to improve overall job success
- Interpret cement sheath evaluation logs
- To master the vocabulary specific to cementing
- To understand and use primary cementing techniques and procedures
- To select cement and necessary additives
- To calculate major parameters in a cementing operation
- To assess the quality of a cementing job
